Redding Gets Colorful

*** cancer awareness at the Sundial Bridge in Redding.Oh boy do we love October around here! Autumn in the North State is about as beautiful as it gets, crisp weather, colorful trees, and the holidays peeking from around the corner. Redding is also a huge supporter of ‘Think Pink’ and *** Cancer Awareness, which reaches its zenith in October. We’re such ardent supporters, we turned an entire bridge pink last week! The community turned out in droves (many dressed in pink or wearing pink feather boas) to see our local icon, the Sundial Bridge, lit magnificently pink. There was cotton candy (pink, of course), live music, information booths, balloons, the works. It was a perfect evening, the earlier rains having wandered off for a bit and every free to roam in their recently resurfaced sweaters and scarves. It was such a fun community evening, maybe we can turn the bridge green for Earth Day? Or red, white and blue for Independence Day?

Around town grocery carts are navigating pumpkin displays of all extents and the seasonal costume shops have appeared in Snow blankets the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center late this morning at Lassen Volcanic National Park. vacant shops, momentarily dispelling the ‘ghost box’ blues of some shopping centers. It’s just a shame orange and pink don’t look better together….

To the east, Mt. Lassen is already seeing the first of what will be many snowfalls and everyone is getting excited to dust off their skis, boards and sleds. With mountains on three sides, we really enjoy watching the patches of white being to form and grow in the distance.

I would venture to say October is the best month, at least around here. Great outdoors, football and baseball in full swing, and the promise of good things in the coming months. Almost makes you want to buy a house and put down roots…. (couldn’t resist!)
